Pat's Weekly Diary - August 17th, 2008
We’re back. That’s right. After a short but sweet little summer vacation the Topcats are back at it. Of course on Wednesday night we returned home to Stepbrothers. We had a great night there. There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home. Thursday night was our return visit to Hurricanes. We had a lot of folks there as well. Friday night we played at the Treasure Chest Casino in Kenner. And had a great night there. Immediately after wards we loaded our Port-Cat equipment into an RV and set out for Jefferson City, Missouri. What? Where? Missouri? That’s right, about 80 miles west of St. Louis, Missouri (Gateway to the West. Land of the Golden Arches. No wait, that’s McDonald's. Land of the Gateway Arch) lays the capitol of Missouri, Jefferson City. Yea, that’s it. Are you kidding me? Who booked that gig? Well we were made an ‘offer we couldn’t refuse’ for a wedding. The bride and groom live in New Orleans but are originally from there. So away we go. We left right after the Treasure Chest. We need to thank Robert’s father in law, Roy Lilly, for providing and driving the RV. Fourteen hours both ways. We were on the road at 2 a.m. and arrived in Jefferson City at about 4:00 Saturday afternoon. We were scheduled to play at 7. The reception hall was packed with people already. The food wasn’t even there yet. We set up our equipment then Dr. Su, the owner of the hall and one of the nicest people you could ever want to meet, brought us to get something to eat and we were back for our 7 o’clock start time. Needless to say by this time the food had arrived and these people had been drinking since about 3 o’clock so they were ready to party. We figured the party would start to slow down early but it never did. At 11 o’clock the food, 9 kegs of beer, and 50 bottles of wine were gone. And they wanted more. But Dr. Su said "that’s it". So we woke Roy up (he slept while we played) packed up, turned around and came right back home. I wanted to stop in Memphis on the way back. After all it is Elvis week. I was out voted. Right around Hammond I figured Roy just might need a break from driving, so I say "come on let me take it home", but he declined. Maybe he thought I couldn’t handle that massive RV. He’s probably right. I can see the Times Picayune headlines "Topcats all die in fiery crash on Interstate 10 in Laplace. It was all Pat’s fault". Anyway we were back in Kenner by about 3:30 Sunday afternoon. There’s no place like home. We’ll see you at Stepbrothers on Wednesday.
